Admissions for International Students



The Graduate Program in Chemistry of Minas Gerais (PPGMQ-MG) welcomes students from all over the world and offers two main admission pathways for international candidates.

Modality 1: Regular PPGMQ Selection Process

This modality is open to all applicants, including international candidates already residing in Brazil or those in their home countries.

o How does the selection work? The selection is carried out through a knowledge-based examination.

o Candidates Abroad: If you are in your home country, it is possible to take the examination remotely. To do so, you must designate an educational institution and a local professor who can supervise the administration of the exam in collaboration with us.

o Language of the Examination:The examination can be taken in either Portuguese or English.

Modality 2: Postgraduate Students-Agreement Program (PEC-PG)

This is an international cooperation opportunity from the Brazilian Government for citizens of developing countries with which Brazil maintains cooperation agreements.

o What is PEC-PG?It is a program that offers Master's and PhD scholarships from CAPES for students from selected countries in Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Asia, with the goal of promoting the training of high-level human resources.

o Main Benefits of the PEC-PG Scholarship:

- Monthly scholarship (Master's or PhD) of the same value granted to Brazilian students.

- Return airfare to the home country upon completion of the program.

- Free access to Brazil's Unified Health System (SUS).

o Main Applicant Requirements (consult the official CAPES call for applications):

- Be a citizen of one of the program's participating countries.

- Not hold a permanent visa or Brazilian citizenship.

- Hold a bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related field.

- Prove proficiency in the Portuguese language (usually through the Celpe-Bras exam).

- Obtain a letter of acceptance from a Brazilian graduate program, such as PPGMQ.

How to Apply to PPGMQ via PEC-PG (Step-by-Step):

The PEC-PG application process requires a letter of acceptance from our program. Follow these steps:

o Step 1: Explore PPGMQ and contact a supervisor.

- Browse our website, learn about our research lines and our faculty. Contact the professor whose research interests you directly to discuss a potential project and request a letter of acceptance.

o Step 2: Complete the Official PEC-PG Application.

- With the letter of acceptance from PPGMQ in hand, you must complete your official application to the program, following the regulations of the CAPES call for applications. This process usually takes place at the Brazilian Embassies or Consulates in your country.
